Continuing Ed plans personal and professional enrichment classes

The Division of Continuing Education and Regional Development will offer a variety of safety, computer, fitness and personal enrichment classes this fall in Bradford, St. Marys and Warren.

 

                Some of the most popular and affordable classes are listed below. Other classes include Microsoft Office, cloud computing and digital photography. For a full listing, visit www.upb.pitt.edu/continuinged/ and click on the fall course book.

 

                Fitness classes begin Sept. 6 in the 5th floor ballroom of Marilyn Horne Hall (formerly the Seneca Building) on Marilyn Horne Way in Bradford.

 

                Country Heat Live will meet from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays from Sept. 6 to Oct. 11. Cost of the class is $49.

 

                Line Dancing will take place in the ballroom from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays from Sept. 14 through Oct. 19. Learn a new dance each week. Cost of the class is $49.

 

                Pitt-Bradford Confucius Scholars will teach Tai Chi for Everyone from 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays from Sept. 25 to Nov. 27 in the ballroom. Cost of the class is $59.

 

                Yoga Fit, which combines Vinyasa and Hatha yoga, will begin in October. Classes are Tuesdays from 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 24- Nov. 28 in the ballroom. Cost of the class is $49.

 

                Computer-related classes begin in September in Bradford. Cyber Security: Tips for Staying Secure on the Web and Social Media will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 18 in Room 200 of Marilyn Horne Hall. Cost of the class is $55.

 

                Classes in various applications of Microsoft Office 2013 and basic classes will be offered from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Community Education Center of Cameron and Elk Counties, 4 Erie Ave., Room 200, St. Marys.

 

                The cost of each class will be $55: Excel 1, Sept. 21; Basic Computers 101, Sept. 25; Cyber Security, Oct. 5; Cyber Seniors, Oct. 19; Microsoft Office 2016 Overview, Nov. 9.

 

                Adult enrichment classes begin on Sept. 20, when Perfect Pillowcase will show beginners step-by-step how to sew their own pillowcase. The class will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 20 at Little Fabric Garden, 25 Main St., Bradford. Cost, which includes materials, is $36.

 

Capture Bradford Photowalk - Fall Foliage Edition will be held in two parts - 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 19 and 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 21. Meet in the classroom the first night to learn basic techniques, then hit the streets with photographer Shawn Murray to capture the beauty of Bradford. Cost is $55.

 

Watercolor Painting will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on both Oct. 23 and 24 in the fourth-floor art room of Marilyn Horne Hall. Explore the use of color and technique. Cost is $45.

 

Learn to use Adobe's Lightroom in two classes to be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 7 and 9. Lightroom is a powerful, yet easy-to-use alternative to more complex programs like Photoshop and is designed for new and experienced photographers. Cost is $55.

 

Holiday Pysanky will be offered during two separate classes on Nov. 18. Participants may attend from 9 a.m. to noon or 1 to 4 p.m. in the fourth-floor art room to learn the art of traditional Ukrainian Easter eggs. Cost is $39 and includes materials.

 

Finally, Violent Workplace Emergencies - The Active Shooter will be offered in St. Mary, Warren and Bradford.

 

The course is designed to help workers prevent, prepare for and react to a violent emergency in the workplace. Each session will take place from 8:30 a.m. to noon and costs $55: Oct. 20, CEC, St. Marys; Nov. 10, Warren-Forest Hi-Ed Council, 589 Hospital Drive, Warren; Dec. 8, Room 200, Marilyn Horne Hall.
