Katie, a right-side hitter for Pitt-Bradford’s volleyball team, knows she has to perform at her highest level. But success on the court takes more than that.

“If we don’t click as a team then it’s very difficult to win. Overcoming this challenge is the most rewarding part about the sport. When all six of us on the court come together as one unit, there’s no better feeling.”

However, playing in perfect sync takes work. Everyone on the team has to work hard, during the offseason, in preseason and during the matches. The team knows all about being in sync. Last November, the team captured the AMCC championship, the second conference title in three years.

Katie’s work doesn’t end on the court. In fact, it’s only beginning.

“Being on the volleyball team certainly adds another layer of difficulty to my academics.”

She makes the best of her time, getting her work done whether it’s between classes or on the bus traveling to away matches. She said her teammates continually challenge her do her best.

All of her hard work – both in the classroom and on the court – has paid off. In addition to getting good grades, Katie has received many accolades, including being named AMCC Player of the Week and being selected for the AMCC All-Conference third team.

“Being part of the volleyball team has not only allowed me to play the sport I love but also to create great friendships with my teammates that will last long after we graduate.”
