Malcolm Hardie, a criminal justice major from Upper Darby, PA
For three weeks during his summer, Malcolm immersed himself in the study of terrorism. He took part in the Study Abroad in Scandinavia program and was in the course, Terrorism vs Counter-Terrorism from a European Perspective course.
He traveled to Copenhagen, Denmark, and Oslo, Norway, where he and his classmates studied the history of terrorism and saw the aftermath of national tragedies, including stops in Oslo and Utøya, where terrorist attacks occurred on July 22, 2011, killing 77 people.
As part of Malcom’s studies, he met with politicians, news reporters and anti-extremism groups to learn how the issues surrounding terrorism are dealt with in Europe.
His studies abroad will give him great insight when he pursues a career in criminal justice as well as what he’s learning on campus.
“The criminal justice department covers a wide variety of topics related to policing, courts and corrections. I feel confident going into a career after the teachings from such experienced professors.”
