If it weren’t for Pitt-Bradford’s small classes, Olivia doesn’t think she would have gotten to know Professor Orrin James and been able to study in Europe over the summer.

In her Anatomy and Physiology lab, Olivia met James who developed the Comparative Healthcare Program in Austria and Slovenia, which gives students a first-hand look at how the health care system in the United States differs from other European countries.

As part of that program, Olivia and her classmates visited hospitals, nursing homes, pharmacies, a medical center, a facility for disabled people, and the Austrian Red Cross.

In her free time, she soaked up the sights. Olivia visited Graz, Austria’s second-largest city, Vienna, its capital, and Salzburg. She also traveled to Maribor in Slovenia. She saw castles, museums and other famous sites, including the Tiergarten Schönbrunn, the world’s oldest zoo, and the Sigmund Freud Museum. She took a cable car ride up the side of a mountain and hiked for a few hours.

“After being on the health care study abroad trip with Orrin, I feel that I have learned more about the two health care systems and also a lot of history and facts about the countries I visited.”
