National First-Gen College Celebration Day
Nov. 8 was National First-Generation College Celebration Day
You're in good company if you’re a first-generation college student – neither of your parents earned a four-year college or university degree. Nearly 50% of our students are first-gen. Many of our faculty and staff are first-generation, too.
We celebrate the accomplishments and determination of all of our first-generation students. We’re here to answer your questions, provide guidance, provide academic resources, and remind you that you belong here.
Here’s what a few of our campus community members have to say about being first-gen.
“My time at Pitt-Bradford has molded me today. I have been able to pay it forward by mentoring and encouraging fellow first-gen students, showing them that with determination and the right support system, they, too, can achieve their academic goals.” – Chanelle Shoemake, a double major in economics and business management from Philadelphia.
