Veronica Shaffer ‘24
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
Tax Associate at Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC)
Before attending Pitt-Bradford, Veronica Shaffer was studying engineering at a university in Ohio and came to a difficult realization: None of it was working for her.
“I really didn’t fit in there, and I didn’t fit in with engineering,” she said.
Due to COVID, all her classes were online, and the class sizes were way too large. Shaffer felt like a small Zoom window among a crowd of Zoom windows instead of a valued, individual student.
“My professors didn't even know my name,” she said. “They didn't know if you were there or not; It didn't matter.”
All the while, Shaffer was struggling to find her direction and the career path that clicked for her.
“I was not doing well in those (engineering) classes,” she admitted. “I literally was about to fail out.”
Shaffer loved math, but she knew engineering wasn’t the right fit for her. She needed a new direction, a new path.
It wasn’t until Shaffer transferred to Pitt-Bradford that she found her direction and the career path for her: accounting.
“It just kind of clicked,” she said.
