Alumni and Family Weekend planned for Sept. 28-30

Pitt-Bradford will celebrate its annual Alumni and Family Weekend Sept. 28-30.

Community members are invited to campus for a variety of events, including the Executive Speaker Series Networking Luncheon, Light up the Quad and alumni athletic events.

On Saturday, campus will come to downtown Bradford for the annual Pumpkin Fest and student club and organization showcase.

Events begin at 11:30 a.m. Friday with the Executive Speaker Series in the Mukaiyama University Room of the Frame-Westerberg Commons.

Dr. Jessica Resig '10 will be the speaker. She is the director of the Center for eLearning initiatives at Penn State Behrend, where she oversees the instructional design of online, hybrid, and executive-style courses and programs.

Later that evening, join students, families, alumni, faculty and staff for Light up the Quad from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Bromeley Family Quadrangle with a special tribute to Dr. Jim Evans, former vice president and dean of student affairs, who retired this summer. Enjoy a doughnut bar, music, mocktails and more. The event is free, but advanced reservations are requested by contacting Institutional Advancement.

Saturday begins on campus with the first several alumni athletic events at 10 a.m., when men's basketball alumni will retake the floor in the KOA Arena. The men's game will be followed by the women's alumni basketball game at 11:30 a.m.

An alumni swim meet will begin at 11 a.m. in the Duke Aquatic Center, and alumni baseball and softball games will start at 1 p.m. at the Kessel Athletic Complex.

Alumni, family, community members and students will have a chance to meet Dr. Larry Feick, interim president, during a Town Hall Meeting planned from 11 a.m. until noon Saturday in the Mukaiyama University Room. Feick will make a brief presentation, followed by an open question-and-answer session.

Also beginning at 11 a.m. on campus are an athletics garage sale in the McDowell Field House until 1 p.m. and the popular Friends of Hanley Library Book Sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the library.

At noon, Pumpkin Fest starts in downtown Bradford, featuring pumpkin-themed children's events, games, hayrides and vendors. Pitt-Bradford students take over Veterans Square from noon to 4 p.m. with children's games in the Pitt Kids Zone. Performances by students and live bands will occur throughout the day.

At 5:30 p.m., the Pitt-Bradford Alumni Association will hold its annual awards dinner along with the Athletic Hall of Fame Induction in the Mukaiyama University Room.

This year's Hall of Fame inductees are Ed Gunkle '98, golf; Tabitha Ryan '11, women's volleyball; and Vic Longo, a retired staff member and dedicated supporter of Panther teams.

The alumni association will present Evans with its annual Teaching Excellence Award and honor Karen Costello-Pecht '11 with its Distinguished Volunteer Award.
