Amount of merit awards raised for new transfer students
Pitt-Bradford has increased the amount of its merit scholarships for newly enrolled in-state and out-of-state students transferring to Pitt-Bradford in Fall 2011 to enable families to cover their education costs.
“This helps us help transfer students a little bit more, making it easier for them to afford college,” said Dr. K. James Evans, vice president and dean of students.
Merit scholarships are provided to students at the time of admission and are independent of any other financial aid they may receive. They are not based on a student’s need, but rather on his or her academic qualifications.
To qualify, transfer students need to enter Pitt-Bradford with at least 24 credits earned from another college or university, along with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 for Pennsylvania residents or 2.5 for out-of-state residents.
Eligibility for scholarships is determined by the offices of admissions and financial aid, but general awards are $3,000 per year for new Pennsylvania transfer students paying in-state tuition and living on campus; new in-state commuter students are eligible for $1,000 per year.
All new out-of-state transfer students meeting the criteria and paying out-of-state tuition are eligible for up to $8,500 each year.
Merit awards apply only to the fall and spring semesters. Summer classes are not eligible. Money also remains available in the merit scholarship program for first-time, full-time freshmen.
