Visiting scholar to play Sarah B. Dorn Organ

The 13th Annual Advent and Christmas Organ Recital at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will take place at noon Dec. 6 in the Harriett B. Wick Chapel.

Alden Wright, director of music and organist at Christ Church Episcopal in Pittsford, N.Y., will play the Sarah B. Dorn Organ. The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

Wright previously served as Organ Scholar at Truro Cathedral in Cornwall, England. He holds a Master of Music degree in organ performance and a bachelor’s degree in music from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y., where he graduated with highest distinction. 

As a performer and national young competitor, Wright holds several distinctions, including winning the 2019 Arthur Poister National Competition in Organ Playing and earning the Pogorzelski-Yankee Memorial Scholarship for undergraduate studies. He has performed student and solo recitals throughout the United States and England and has taken part in masterclasses with some of the world’s top performers. He is a native of Salisbury, N.C.

The Sarah B. Dorn Organ was built by Schantz Organ Co. in Orrville, Ohio, in 2010. The organ has 1,020 pipes that were voiced and tuned on site in the chapel.

Dorn was a philanthropist who supported Pitt-Bradford and former co-owner of Zippo Manufacturing Co. and W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co.
