Celebration of the Arts showcases student works

Pitt-Bradford will highlight student work during the second annual Celebration of the Arts from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 18 throughout Blaisdell Hall.

The event will feature several senior capstone presentations, art gallery exhibitions, digital videos, music recordings and an all-around celebration of all things art that students have created. It is sponsored by the university's Division of Communication and the Arts, interdisciplinary arts program and Pitt-Bradford Arts.

The events will take place throughout Blaisdell Hall, including the KOA Art Gallery, KOA Speer Electronics Gallery, and the Helen Hume Reception Gallery as well as several classrooms.

“We are extremely pleased to offer this event to celebrate our students, their accomplishments and work,” said Anna Lemnitzer, assistant professor of art and director of the interdisciplinary arts program. “We hope the campus and community will join us on Thursday to celebrate.”

Starting at 5:30 p.m., members of the Digital Music Creation class will present in the music lab.

At 6 p.m., the interdisciplinary arts senior capstone presentations will begin in the KOA Gallery: “Is This Me? Exploring Identity Through Costume Design” by Kylie Schuman of Allegany, N.Y., “Emotional Sensation: Seeking a Response” by Megan Girard of Bradford, “Exercise and the Arts” by Delaney Houtz of Myerstown, and “True Personalities” by Yamiles Escalera of Philadelphia.

Presentations will then move to the KOA Speer Electronics Lobby, where Patrouious Achatz of Pittsburgh will present “How Far Have We Come: LGBTQ+ and the Children's Hour.”

Then Brianna Henry, a writing major from Bradford, will read from her young adult novel, “Behind Closed Doors,” before an open mic session from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. in the lobby. Writers, actors, singers, dancers, musicians, and artists of all kinds are also invited to participate in the open mic. The open mic is sponsored by the Writing Program, Writing Center and the university literary magazine, Baily's Beads.

Throughout the evening, filmmaking students will show videos, and artwork from students will be on display. The public is welcome. Refreshments and appetizers will be served.
