Co-ed clays target team to be added next year
Bradford Gun Club will serve as team’s home base
The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford is adding a co-ed clays target team that will compete in trap and skeet shooting and sporting clays beginning in the 2025-26 academic year.
“We are very excited to start a clays target team here at Pitt-Bradford,” said Bret Butler, athletic director. “It is a fast-growing sport that is increasing in popularity in the region. The team will be a great asset to our department and the university.”
Recruiting for the team will begin immediately. Prospective students interested in learning more about the program are asked to contact Butler at bab15@pitt.edu or 814-362-5093, or volunteer coach Jeff Cattoni at jlc203@pitt.edu.
The new team will be part of the Scholastic Clay Target Program. The SCTP is a youth Clay Target Program that gives students the chance to compete in clay target sports at the elementary, high school and collegiate level. There are currently 125 colleges and universities that sponsor a team through SCTP, including fellow AMCC member Mount Aloysius College.
The Pitt-Bradford clays team will use the Bradford Gun Club as its home base, where the team will practice, compete and store their equipment. Team competitions will include both in-person and virtual events, which will entail recording team scores at the Bradford Gun Club and comparing them to scores from other teams at their home sites.
Adding a clays target team to Pitt-Bradford’s existing roster of intercollegiate sports began over two years ago through the leadership of President Rick Esch and Zachary Stark, an instructor of exercise science who also coaches the clays target team at Bradford Area High School.
