Friends mark 25th anniversary of Seasonal Readings

For the 25th consecutive year, the Friends of Hanley Library will present its annual “Seasonal Readings” on WESB's LiveLine program.

The show, which can be heard at 1490 AM, will be broadcast at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 12.

For the program's 25th anniversary, Dr. Don Ulin, associate professor of English, will return to the program's founding, when Dr. Robert C. Laing, professor emeritus of English at Pitt-Bradford, read selections from “A Christmas Carol.”

Ulin will read from Charles Dickens' classic holiday tale as well as provide background and insights into the novella and its author.  Dickens first published “A Christmas Carol” in 1844. Since then it has become one of the all-time favorites of Christmas literature.  It has been adapted for numerous plays, both for stage and audio performances.

Laing was a board member of the Friends of Hanley Library, which has sponsored the event ever since Laing founded it. Since 2001, Dr. Don Ulin has coordinated this popular program. According to Jim Guelfi, president of Friends of Hanley Library, “We are delighted that that WESB's LiveLine format allows the Friends to reach many listeners in their homes and places of work.”

The Friends of Hanley Library group was founded in 1990 to strengthen relations between the community and Pitt-Bradford's Hanley Library. The Friends also acquaint area residents with what the library has to offer by sponsoring cultural and educational programs, usually related to books and their authors.
