Hartburg, Robar to be honored by PBAA

Hartburg is the current chairman of the Pitt-Bradford Advisory Board and was nominated by three separate individuals who have worked closely with him on the Pitt-Bradford Alumni Association Board and Advisory Board.

Hartburg has been an active alumnus almost since the time of his graduation from the University of Pittsburgh’s campus in Pittsburgh and has served in various posts in the PBAA, the Advisory Board and now the University of Pittsburgh board of trustees. He is the owner and president of Servco Services Inc. janitorial services in Bradford.

“Craig is one alumnus who has taken his knowledge and experience at running a business and applied it to being a volunteer chairman of the board of this multi-million-dollar venture,” said Tim Fannin ’78 in his nomination.

David Higie ’74-’75, who also serves on the Advisory Board, said that “Craig has been a true leader for Pitt-Bradford at both the University level and in the community. He has recruited students to Pitt-Bradford, raised a significant amount of funds for the school, and now has the highest ‘civilian’ position at the university as head of the Advisory Board, where he does an outstanding job.”

Susan Silvestri ’72-’74 noted Hartburg’s accomplishments adding professionals from within the Bradford community and across the state to the Advisory Board, supporting and developing the relationship between the Advisory Board and the PBAA, and developing relationships between the university, business and industry, education, government, the arts and community service organizations.

Robar was nominated by several former students who said he was a knowledgeable, motivating and inspiring professor and made political science interesting.

“He was an excellent professor,” said Sara Vossler ’00. “I really learned a lot from him, and I will remember him in years to come.”

Rachael Canfield ’08 said he was “very inspiring, motivating and knowledgeable and a great guy.”

Robar is an associate professor of political science and chairman of the Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences. His teaching is focused in the areas of environmental policy and politics, U.S. political and policy processes, and the judicial system.

“I have high expectations of my students, and I give them a great deal of challenging work,” Robar said. “But I am fair and flexible with all of my students. I believe I have the knack for blending my management experience with my teaching skills, which creates good discipline and close working relationships.”

Robar holds a doctorate in political science and environmental policy and a Master of Public Administration from Northern Arizona University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the State University of New York at New Paltz.
