Hosting International Visitors from China

Pitt-Bradford will host a free workshop Nov. 1 for those who want to learn more about “Hosting International Visitors From China.”

The workshop, which is co-sponsored by the Allegheny National Forest Visitors Bureau, will take place from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Mukaiyama University Room in the Frame-Westerberg Commons on campus. The seminar includes a full breakfast. Registration is required.

Presenters Ada Huang and Lillian Zhang of the Confucius Institute will talk about cultural differences, what to do when meeting Chinese visitors, how to prepare your business to welcome groups and individual travelers, and what our area offers to Chinese visitors. The class is designed for hospitality providers, retailers, restaurateurs and anyone interested in providing exceptional service to Chinese guests.

Both women are graduate students in the College of Chinese Language and Literature at Wuhan University in Wuhan, China.

Huang teaches Chinese as a second language at Wuhan University and holds a bachelor’s degree in teaching Chinese as a second language from Central China Normal University. She has an extensive background in Chinese calligraphy, for which she has won several prizes. Her other interests include martial arts, opera, paper cutting, traditional Chinese painting and mahjong. Zhang earned her bachelor’s degree in teaching Chinese as a foreign language from Wuhan and is pursuing a master’s degree in the same area. Her areas of study include linguistics, literature, psychology, English translation, Western culture, logic, science of religion and international business.

The program is funded in part by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Discovered in PA, Developed in PA program.

Huang and Zhang will also teach a workshop on “Doing Business in China” Dec. 5. The cost of that workshop is $25 and includes a full breakfast.
