Lady Panthers softball team earns academic award
Pitt-Bradford women’s softball ranked 74th among NCAA Division III softball teams in the nation to earn a National Fastpitch Coaches Association girls got game Team Academic Awards for 2009-10 academic year.
The team had a 3.17 grade point average for the year.
“I am very proud of the team being honored with this award,” said head softball coach Tina Phillips. “It takes a lot of dedication and time management for players to maintain their grades and do that during the season is doubly impressive, especially the four players who achieved greater than a 3.5 last year.”
In addition, four players earned scholar-athlete awards. To qualify for this award, a student athlete must have at least a 3.5 GPA in 2009-10. It was the fourth time Clyde and Courson had received the award. Both women graduated from Pitt-Bradford in April and are attending graduate schools at Slippery Rock University and the University of Indiana, respectively.
Other students on the 2009-10 team are Erin Fieldhouse, third base, a nursing major from Pittsburgh; Lauryn Weaver, catcher, a health and physical education major from Port Matilda; Erikka Rosplock, shortstop and second base, a health and physical education major from Elmira, N.Y.; Kerri Davis, outfielder, a sports medicine major from Stow, Ohio;
