Laurel Phillips chosen for Staff Recognition Award
Laurel Retzer Phillips, manager of human resources at Pitt-Bradford, has been chosen by the Pitt-Bradford Staff Association for its 2010 Staff Recognition Award.
Melissa Ibañez, director of financial aid, nominated Phillips.
“Laurel makes exceptional contributions toward effectiveness and efficiency in the workplace,” Ibañez wrote in her nomination. “She consistently exhibits excellent customer service skills and demonstrates positive interpersonal skills that support the diversity of the university community.”
Ibañez also cited Phillips’ work implementing a new electronic timekeeping system, organizing an annual recognition dinner and benefits fair, and serving as past president of the Staff Association.
Phillips has worked at Pitt-Bradford for 23 years and earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Pitt-Bradford while working full time.
She is a member of the College and University Personnel Association and the board of directors of the Bradford YWCA.
She and her husband, Gary, live in Ellicottville, N.Y., and have three grown sons.
The annual staff recognition award honors an employee whose performance consistently exceeds the standards and expectations set for his or her position at the university or whose work in the community surpasses the expectations of the organizations they serve.
