Master of Social Work program graduates cohort
Seven residents of the region were recognized this month for earning their Master of Social Work as part of the seventh cohort of students to do their coursework at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
Seven residents of the region were recognized this month for earning their Master of Social Work as part of the seventh cohort of students to do their coursework at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
Speakers included Dr. Livingston Alexander, president of Pitt-Bradford; Dr. Valire Copeland, associate dean of academic affairs in the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work; Stephanie Eckstrom, coordinator of the MSW program at Pitt-Bradford; and two student speakers, Kristi Goldthwaite of Sheffield and Ashley Major of Port Allegany.
Both Alexander and Copeland reviewed the continued pressing social needs caused by violence, trauma, substance abuse and poverty.
In addition to Goldthwaite and Major, those graduating were Allison Armstrong of Bradford, Denise Greeley of Great Valley, N.Y., Christina Mead of Wellsville, N.Y., Corey Meyer of Bradford, and Jennifer Morgan-Burt of Olean, N.Y.
The University of Pittsburgh began offering its Master of Social Work at the Bradford campus in 2002. Since then, more than 100 social work professionals in the Twin Tiers region have completed the degree.
