Merit scholarships increased for new students
Pitt-Bradford has increased the amount of its merit scholarships for full-time in-state and out-of-state students entering Pitt-Bradford in fall 2011 to enable families to cover their education costs.
Depending on the particular award, amounts of some merit scholarships have increased $500 to $1,000 per year.
“We’re very mindful of the struggles families in our region and beyond experience covering household and other expenses,” said Dr. Livingston Alexander, president of Pitt-Bradford.
“Increasing the dollar amount of the merit scholarships is one of many ways in which we continue to make our high quality education accessible to low- and moderate-income families.”
Merit scholarships are provided to students at the time of admission and are independent of any other financial aid they may receive. New students may be eligible for merit scholarships if they have a minimum SAT score of at least 930 (math and critical reading portions only) or ACT score of at least 20, and a high school grade point average of 2.5 or better.
Transfer students need to enter Pitt-Bradford with at least 24 credits earned from another college or university, along with a minimum cumulative QPA of 3.0 (PA residents) or 2.5 (out-of-state residents) in order to qualify for an award.
Eligibility for scholarships is determined by the offices of admissions and financial aid, but general awards are as follows:
· Pennsylvania freshmen paying in-state tuition and living on campus can receive $5,000 or $6,000 per year for four years;
· Pennsylvania freshmen commuters paying in-state tuition (who must have an SAT score of at least 1150 [math and critical reading only] and a GPA of at least 3.0) can receive $1,000 per year for four years;
· Out-of-state freshmen paying out-of-state tuition and living on campus can receive $11,000 or $11,500 per year for four years;
· Out-of-state freshmen commuters paying out-of-state tuition can receive $7,000 or $8,500 per year for four years;
· New Pennsylvania transfer students paying in-state tuition and living on campus can receive $3,000 per year for four years; or if commuting, these students may receive up to $1,000 per year for four years, and
· New out-of-state transfer students paying out-of-state tuition and living either on or off campus may receive $7,500 per year for four years.
