Pianist Benjamin Laude will perform works of Ludwig von Beethoven Thursday evening in honor of the composer’s 250th birthday this year.

The concert, which is part of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford’s Prism Arts Series, will take place at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 30 in the Bromeley Family Theater in Blaisdell Hall on campus. Tickets are $20 for the public and $5 for all students. Members of the Marilyn Horne Museum and Exhibit Center Opera Guild receive a $5 discount with membership card when purchasing tickets at the box office.

An active soloist and sought-after chamber musician, Laude is a pianist of international standing whose playing has been praised by The New York Times as “superb in pace, tone and eloquence.”

Debuting with the Austin (Texas) Symphony at age 17, he has since performed at Carnegie Hall and venues throughout the world. He holds master and doctoral degrees from The Julliard School and a bachelor’s degree from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music.

He has taught at Bard College-Conservatory and the Suzuki School for Strings in New York.

Selections at Thursday’s concert are Beethoven’s Sonata No. 8 in C Minor, Op. 13 “Pathetique,” Bagatelles, Op. 126 and Sonata No. 21 in C Major, Op. 53 “Waldstein.”

Laude will play Pitt-Bradford’s 9-foot Steinway grand piano. “It is a world-class instrument, and we are pairing it with a world-class performer, Ben Laude,” said Patricia Colosimo, director of arts programming. “I am very excited that he can be here for this special celebration featuring the works of Beethoven.”
