Pitt-Bradford welcomed four new full-time faculty members for the 2012-13 academic year.

Joining the faculty are Dr. James W. Carlson, visiting assistant professor of management; Jennifer L. Forney, visiting instructor of hospitality management; Dr. Juan “Jenny” Gu, visiting instructor of biology; and Dr. Joshua R. Meddaugh, visiting assistant professor of political science.

Returning to Pitt-Bradford as full-time faculty this year are Diana S. Maguire, a former teaching member of the staff who is now a visiting assistant professor of marketing; and Dr. Daneryl M. Nier-Weber, who has been hired as the permanent director of the writing center, a post she held on an interim basis last year.

Carlson is a lifelong resident of McKean County. He grew up in his family’s business, G.L. Carlson Inc. in Turtlepoint, which is involved in grocery and farm supplies retailing and agricultural and timber production. He has taught at Mansfield University and was a member of the Small Business Development Project there until returning full-time to his family’s business in 1990. He holds a doctorate of education in higher education finance from Penn State University.

Forney has 16 years of experience in hotel management and customer service. She has worked as regional director of sales for Theraldson Property Management, a group of 25 hotels that include Marriott, Hilton and Choice Hotel properties, and as a district manager and general manager for Indus Companies, during which time she managed a Microtel Inn & Suites that received a 99 Percent Quality Assurance Score and was nominated for Microtel Hotel of the Year. She holds a Master of Science in education from Canisius College and a Bachelor of Science in hospitality management from Pitt-Bradford.

Gu comes to Pitt-Bradford from the department of medicine at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, where she was a research associate. Before that, she was a teaching assistant and research affiliate at Washington State University. She holds a doctorate in genetics and cell biology from the School of Molecular Biosciences at Washington State.  At Pitt-Bradford, she will teach anatomy and physiology.

Meddaugh has served as an adjunct professor in political science for the past two years at Pitt-Bradford and at the University at Buffalo, which is part of the State University of New York system. He earned his doctorate of philosophy in political science from SUNY Buffalo earlier this month after defending his dissertation, “Waiting for Federalism: An Empirical Investigation into the Rehnquist Court’s Federalism Decisions.” He lives in Jamestown, N.Y.
