Pitt-Bradford business students finish first in global simulation

Capstone students top teams from 142 universities and business colleges

Students in Dr. Amy Gresock’s business management capstone course at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford topped teams from 142 universities and business colleges in the penultimate week of a global business simulation known as GLO-BUS.

Gresock’s students participated in the simulation to evaluate their business skills against other college students around the world during their capstone classes this fall.

At the beginning of the term, teams of students worldwide received identical attributes for a hypothetical business. Each business made the same thing – mobile cameras and drones, then could adjust factors such as employee pay and benefits, stock offers and buybacks, marketing dollars, whether to invest in robotic technology over assembly employees, research and development and more.

The GLO-BUS system then measured how each team would perform in relation to the other teams across the globe. Each week of the semester equaled a “year,” and GLO-BUS posts standings of global top performers and corporate social responsibility awards weekly.

During the week of Nov. 13, one of Pitt-Bradford’s teams, CCam-AIR-a, finished in the top spot for earnings per share and fifth worldwide for its stock price.

A second team, Birds Eye Innovators, tied for ninth in overall standings during the week of Oct. 23.

Students in the capstone course are business management majors Eukie Akrong of Woodbridge, Va., Owen FitzSimmons of Livonia, N.Y., Gary “Nico” Hall of Aliquippa, Cameron Harrier of Emporium, Emily Koniak of Salamanca, N.Y., and Chanelle Shoemake of Philadelphia.
