Kelcey Schaum, a psychology major, will present research at the annual meeting of the Eastern Psychological Association next week in Boston.

Schaum will present a poster of her research, “Race and Criminal History on the Likelihood of Job Hiring.” In her research, undergraduate students were given one of six scenarios to read about a job candidate who was African-American or Caucasian and who had either a criminal background, no criminal background, a misdemeanor, or a felony.

Schaum found that only the type of crime committed had an impact on the participants’ likelihood of hiring the candidate.

Schaum, who is from Slippery Rock, has previously presented at the Penn-York Undergraduate Research Conference and Honors Day at Pitt-Bradford. In addition, she was captain of the Pitt-Bradford volleyball team last fall and is president of the Psychology Club at Pitt-Bradford.
