Public welcome at many Alumni and Family Weekend events
Light Up the Quad, academic tours and book sale to take place on campus
The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will welcome back alumni and family of current students Sept. 27 and 28. And although it’s Alumni and Family Weekend, the public is invited to take part in many activities on campus and in downtown Bradford.
Events are free unless otherwise noted. Reservations for events can be made at upb.pitt.edu/AFW.
Friday, Sept. 27
6:30 to 9 p.m. – Light Up the Quad, Robert B. Bromeley Quadrangle and Hanley Library. Join students, alumni, parents, families, faculty and staff as we kick off the weekend in perfect Pitt-Bradford style by lighting up the quad in blue and gold. Registration required.
Saturday, Sept. 28
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Opening of the biodiversity lab on the first floor of Fisher Hall. Stop by to chat with faculty and student groups talking about their research in chemistry, biology, forensics and environmental science with demonstrations and interactive activities.
10:30 to 11:30 a.m. – Nursing Simulation Lab Tours, Swarts Hall, 2nd floor. Visit Pitt-Bradford’s modern nursing simulation and learning skills lab and see firsthand how our students are preparing for successful careers in the medical field. Students manage real-life scenarios in the mock patient room while professors watch and offer guidance from behind one-way glass in the control room. Reservation required.
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Virtual Reality Lab Experience, George B. Duke Engineering and Information Technologies Building. Step into a world of endless possibilities with our thrilling Virtual Reality Lab Experience! Explore new dimensions, embark on epic adventures, and immerse yourself in innovative VR technology.
11 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Friends of Hanley Library Book Sale. Hanley Library.
11:30 to 1 p.m. – Crime Scene Investigation House tour, CSI House (found off the campus loop on the west end of campus). Step into the world of forensic science with a tour of the CSI House on campus. This facility offers a fascinating glimpse into the techniques and technologies used in crime scene investigation. Whether you’re a prospective student, an alum, or just a curious visitor, the CSI House tour promises an engaging and educational experience. Reservation required.
Noon – Pumpkin Carving Master Class with Eric Jones. Duke Building patio. Rain location, Swarts 111. Pumpkin carving class with Eric Jones, 2023 Guiness World Record holder for carving
the world’s largest Jack-o’-lantern. He was also the winner of Food Network’s Outrageous Pumpkins in season 3 and a finalist in Food Network’s Halloween Wars. Reservation required. Cost is $10 per person. Children younger than 5 must have an adult help.
Noon to 4 p.m. – Bradford Pumpkin Fest, Main Street, Bradford, featuring the Pitt-Bradford Kids Zone.
1 p.m. – Alumni swim meet and after party, Paul C. Duke III Aquatic Center, Richard E. and Ruth McDowell Sport and Fitness Center. Join alumni and student swimmers for in the Duke Aquatic Center. Make a splash at the pool party or unwind on the patio with yard games. Light refreshments will be served after the meet.
1 p.m. – Panthers women’s volleyball tri-meet vs. Elmira College and Wilson College, KOA Arena, Sport and Fitness Center
1 p.m. – Alumni baseball game, Kessel Athletic Complex.
2 to 3 p.m. – Historic Trolley Tour of downtown Bradford. Departs from the Frame-Westerberg Commons loop. Climb aboard the Historic Downtown Trolley and embark on a captivating journey through Bradford. Guided tour will take you through the heart of downtown to explore Bradford’s most iconic landmarks, hidden gems and period architecture.
6 to 7:30 p.m. – Alumni Awards Dinner and Athletic Hall of Fame Induction. 5:30 p.m. cocktail hour. Mukaiyama University Room, Frame-Westerberg Commons. Reservations required. Adults $25 per person. Children aged 6-12, $12. Children aged 5 and younger, free. Attire is business casual. Honoring Dr. David Merwine, associate professor of biology, with the Pitt-Bradford Alumni Association Teaching Award and Josh Bridge ’02 with the Denny Lowery Distinguished Volunteer Award. Ali Rinfrette ’18, women’s basketball, and Elizabeth Prager ’18, women’s swimming, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
7:30 p.m. -- The Missing Element street dance show featuring The Beatbox House beatboxing group, Bromeley Family Theater, Blaisdell Hall. Tickets for the public are $20; for students, $5. Pitt-Bradford students are free. The Missing Element fuses together street dancers from the krump, flexing and breaking communities with the virtuosic music-making of The Beatbox House. This piece commissioned by the Guggenheim has also been performed at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Marcus Garvey Park in New York and Lincoln Center. For tickets visit upb.pitt.edu/thearts.
