In-state tuition program offered to 20 more New York counties

Pitt-Bradford has extended its in-state tuition program to 20 more New York counties in the Finger Lakes, Southern Tier and Central New York regions.

The new counties are Broome, Cayuga, Chemung, Cortland, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Onondaga, Ontario, Orleans, Oswego, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Tioga, Tompkins, Wayne, Wyoming and Yates.

Starting in fall 2018, students from those counties will be able to join students from Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua and Erie counties in enrolling at Pitt-Bradford at the standard Pennsylvania in-state tuition rate.  

For students admitted at Pitt-Bradford in fall 2018 who live in one of the qualifying counties, the Go Beyond NYS financial aid award will reduce the cost of tuition from the current out-of-state rate of $24,184 to the current Pennsylvania in-state tuition rate of $12,040.

“This is a great opportunity for New York State students,” said Dr. Livingston Alexander, Pitt-Bradford's president. “We continue to strive to make our high-quality college education affordable and accessible for all students.”

Pitt-Bradford, a Pennsylvania state-related university, is located in Bradford, just six miles from the New York state border. The campus is part of the University of Pittsburgh, and students earn a University of Pittsburgh degree.

One of the students currently benefiting from the award is Austin Waltenbaugh, computer information systems and technology major from Orchard Park, N.Y., near Buffalo. He is a triplet whose brothers, Ryan and Luke, are also enrolled at Pitt-Bradford. All three received the Go Beyond NYS Award. He said, “For my family to send three of their sons to college at the same time is no small feat. Our parents were very happy to find out that my brothers and I were able to pay in-state tuition even though we lived in New York.”

In order to qualify, students need to live in a qualifying county, be a new, full-time student and gain admission to Pitt-Bradford.  A 2.25 grade point average will be necessary to retain the award for a maximum of four years.
