Three students awarded NEXT STEP Business Grants

Three Pitt-Bradford have been awarded a total of $4,000 in NEXT STEP Business Grants to start their own businesses.

Winners were Joe DeVito, an environmental studies major from Tionesta, who will receive a $2,000 grant to start a blacksmith shop in Forest County.

Yvon Woappi, a biology major from Hanover, received a $1,000 grant to start a water delivery service for students on campus.

Jing Dong of Bradford received a $1,000 grant to sell jewelry and accessories on campus and beyond.

The competition is sponsored by the Pitt-Bradford entrepreneurship program to help student entrepreneurs to move their businesses forward.

Winners were chosen by a panel of three judges: Ron Orris, executive director of the Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce; Brian Jadlowiec of Northwest Savings Bank; and Ray Dickerson, a Pitt-Bradford entrepreneurship major from Pittsburgh.

A second round of grants for students will be awarded in late February. For more information, visit the Pitt-Bradford entrepreneurship program website at www.pittpowerofe.com.
