How to Make an Appointment

at the Academic Coaching & Tutoring Center (ACTC), Mathematics Center, Writing Center and Academic Advising Center

Tutoring Appointments: Scheduling via the App – Navigate Student

You will need to download a mobile app called “Navigate Student”. You can find the app in the Apple Store or in the Google Play Store.  Once you download the app, you will be prompted to select your school (University of Pittsburgh). You will be asked to sign in with your Pitt username and password. You will be asked to authenticate your login using two-factor authentication (more info on this here: https://www.technology.pitt.edu/services/multifactor-authentication-pitt). You will then be prompted to fill out a short survey about your academic experiences and interests. Once you download the app, select your school (University of Pittsburgh).

Making An Appointment

  • Click on the purple “Appointments” button on the Explore menu
  • Click “Schedule an Appointment”
  • Select Type of Appointment: Tutoring
  • Pick a School/Campus (UPB ACTC- Academic Coaching & Tutoring Center, UPB Math, UPB Writing)
  • Pick a Reason
  • Choose the location (Hanley 249, 250, 251) *Note: during this time, appointments will be primarily virtual.
  • Select your class from the list
  • Choose the best time available for you (Eastern Standard Time)
  • Check that the details of your appointment are correct
  • Click “Confirm Appointment”
  • Instructions for your Appointment
    • ACTC-Academic Coaching & Tutoring Center
      • When you schedule a tutoring appointment, a link for Zoom will be included in your confirmation email from Student Navigate/Pathways. Please lookout for these emails so you can connect with your tutor/coach at your scheduled time via the Zoom link.
      • Prior to your appointment time, visit https://pitt.zoom.us/  or install Zoom. To sign into Zoom, select “Sign in with SSO”, enter pitt.zoom.us. Then sign in with your Pitt credentials.
      • The Password for all appointments is “ACTC” (All capital letters).
    • Math Center
      • Your tutor will call you via the Zoom platform.
      • Make sure you are signed into Zoom prior to your appointment start time.
      • Please watch your email closely as your appointment time approaches. In the event of technical difficulties, we will use email for quick communication with you.
    • Writing Center
      • Your consultant will send you an invitation to your Zoom appointment once you schedule it, so please make sure you have Zoom installed prior to your scheduled appointment.
      • If you cannot use Zoom, please email the consultant you selected to have your appointment with as soon as possible, OR when you receive the Zoom invitation from your consultant, please respond letting the consultant know you are unable to Zoom and include how you would like to attend your appointment (you can always email your paper along with the assignment/prompt and any questions/comments you may have about your paper that you want the consultant to specifically address [please note that if you choose to send your paper, it MUST be attached as a Word document].
      • At the time of your appointment, please make sure you have the assignment/prompt opened on your desktop as the consultant will ask you to share your screen so that you and the consultant can read through your paper together, which allows you to make notes or leave comments during your appointment.
      • During normal semesters, the Writing Center offers visit vouchers (what we call "blue slips") in case your instructor asks for proof of your visit. Because we are remote this semester, we can still email your instructor, so please make sure you tell your consultant that you would like him/her to send an email to your instructor. Please be sure to include the name of your instructor to your consultant during your appointment.

Tutoring Appointments: Scheduling via computer

  • Visit: https://pitt.guide.eab.com/app/#!/authentication/remote/
  • Log in to your account
  • Click on “Appointments” on the left
  • Click “Schedule an Appointment”
  • Select type of appointment: Tutoring
  • Pick a School/Campus (UPB ACTC- Academic Coaching & Tutoring Center, UPB Math, UPB Writing)
  • Pick a reason
  • Choose the location (Hanley 249, 250, or 251) *Note: during this time, appointments will be primarily virtual.
  • Choose tutor(s), then click next (Select all tutors for more options)
  • Choose the best time available for you (Eastern Standard Time)
  • Check that the details of your appointment are correct
  • Click “Confirm Appointment”
  • Instructions for your Appointment

To make an appointment with the Academic Advising Center

You will need to download a mobile app called Navigate-Student. Navigate-Student is an app that will tip you off to important events coming up, connect you with support, allow you to make appointments with the center and in the future your faculty advisor.

  • This app is available in the App Store or Google Play Store, and you can search for it by typing “Navigate Student”.
  • Once you download the app, you will be prompted to select your school (University of Pittsburgh)
  • You will be asked to sign in with your Pitt username and password
  • You will be asked to authenticate your login using two-factor authentication (more info on this here: https://www.technology.pitt.edu/services/multifactor-authentication-pitt)
  • You will be prompted to fill out a short survey about your academic experiences and interests
  • After you’ve taken these steps, use the app to schedule an appointment with myself (Susan Gleason)or Jodi Burns:
  • Click on the purple “Appointments” button on the Explore menu
  • Click the blue “Schedule an Appointment” bar at the bottom of the My Appointments screen
  • Choose “Advising”
  • Choose “Pitt-Bradford Advising Center”
  • Choose the appropriate appointment type – you have a few (i.e., UPB Advising, UPB-AEP, UPB – Major/Career Exploration)
  • Choose “Academic Advising Center Hanley 218” as the location
  • Choose an available advisor
  •  Choose the best time available for you (Eastern Standard Time)
  • Check that the details of your appointment are correct
  • Click “Confirm Appointment”
