Gender Inclusive Housing

Find your safe space.

The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford values every member of the Pitt community, striving to fully include all students into on-campus housing. Gender Inclusive Housing allows students to live with whomever they choose regardless of gender, sex, gender identity, or expression. Available in select buildings for first-year and upper-class students, Gender Inclusive Housing options are in accordance with University housing processes.

Availability

Gender Inclusive Housing is available in Stein and Reed-Coit for upper-class students.  Spaces are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Residence Life and Housing reserves the right to review all requests and will determine approval on a case-by-case basis.

First-year students will be assigned to housing based on documented biological sex. Transgender and transitioning students may contact the Director of Residence Life and Housing to discuss their housing options and must receive approval to live in Gender Inclusive Housing.

Gender Inclusive Housing Selection

Students who wish to live in Gender Inclusive Housing will select rooms using the same housing selection process as all other students. No preference will be given to students who choose Gender Inclusive Housing.

Students must meet the housing application deadline to participate in online room selection. Availability of Gender Inclusive Housing space after online room selection will depend on availability of rooms once the online process has concluded. Students who apply after the online room selection deadline will be assigned to same-sex units based on the student’s biological gender, as identified on the student's University record.

Vacancies And Room Change Procedures

Vacancies will be filled in accordance with the University’s general process and depending on the style of the room. Vacancies within gender inclusive buildings are filled with students of the same sex-at-birth as the remaining roommate(s), unless otherwise requested.

Students residing in Gender Inclusive Housing who request a room change mid-semester have two options. Choices include placement in different gender inclusive spaces (if available) or in a room with a roommate of same sex-at-birth. Room changes are intended to be used for emergency purposes and are not approved on a regular basis. If no agreement is made between current roommates regarding the gender of vacant bed space, the University has certain rights. The University has the right to relocate all remaining roommates and fill the apartment as needed.
